Evolving Healthcare Provision in Dartmouth

A meeting took place on 4th September 2014 of key stakeholders concerning the planned move of healthcare from the current three sites ( Dartmouth Hospital, Dartmouth Clinic and Dartmouth Medical Practice) onto one site at the ‘top of town’. There is a report of the meeting in this week’s Chronicle.

Although these are early days it is gratifying that there was unanimous support for the idea at the meeting. This is an exciting time and it is important the views and ideas of healthcare users are heard and shared. A formal consultation process is likely to follow soon, but you can starting thinking now about how you might to contribute to the debate. Post your thoughts on our blog, contact the PPG, e-mail the surgery.

Flu Clinics 2014

We are running two flu clinics this year:

Monday 13th October - Townstal Community Hall
Wednesday 5th November - Flavel Hall, Dartmouth

You are eligible to receive a free flu jab if you:

- Are 65 years of age or over
- Are a child aged 2,3 or 4 years
- Are pregnant
- Have asthma, COPD, diabetes, heart disease, history of stroke, kidney disease, liver disease, neurological disease or a lowered immunity due to disease or treatment
- Are living in a long-stay residential care home or other long-stay care facility
- Receive a carer's allowance, or you are the main carer for an elderly or disabled person whose welfare may be at risk if you fall ill
- Are a healthcare worker with direct patient contact or a social care worker

Serious allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) to flu vaccines are very rare and with prompt treatment patients make a quick and complete recovery. To ensure appropriate treatment is available and rapid access to the emergency services secured, this year the Flu Clinics will be held at the Flavel Centre and Townstal Community Hall only. A doctor will also be on site during these clinics.

Whilst we recognise that this might be inconvenient for some of you, it is our overriding responsibility to ensure your safety when administering vaccinations.

Flu vaccinations will continue to be available at the surgery as previously with special provision for those using public transport links from outside of Dartmouth.
